Numerical Investigation of Influence of Spot Geometry in Laser Peen Forming of Thin-Walled Ti-6Al-4V Specimens

The aviation industry demands thin-walled structures of high dimensional accuracy. Varying radii and individual use-cases, e.g. for repair purpose, require flexible forming techniques. Laser peen (LPF) represents such a process providing precise energy input by pulsed laser over wide range. Among adjustable parameters as intensity focus size, the spot shape, i.e. square circular, is usually fixed specific system. As shape crucial parameter, this work focuses on effect structural deformation after LPF application. Therefore, models Ti-6Al-4V strips systems with circular shapes are set up. Geometric conditions both ensure equal during processing. numerical simulation relies so called eigenstrain method, leading to cost-efficient calculation resulting dynamic process. Square-based peening pattern exhibit higher deflection. For increasing deflection difference between circle-based patterns increase slightly.
